Your domain name is your address on the web, so it is worth getting right. Here is how to choose one, register it with Hostbox, and set it up properly.
Choosing a good domain name
A strong domain is:
- Short and memorable: Easy to say and type.
- Brandable: Reflects your name or business.
- Easy to spell: Avoid hyphens and unusual spellings that people might mistype.
- Future-proof: Broad enough to grow with you.
Checking availability and registering
Use the Hostbox domain search to check if your preferred name is available.
Choose a TLD like .com, .me, or a local option that fits your audience.
Add it to your cart, confirm your contact details, and check out. Your domain is registered to you.
Why auto-renew matters
Domains are leased, not bought outright, so they must be renewed to stay yours. Hostbox uses an auto-renew model: we automatically renew your domain before it expires so you never lose it by accident.
If a domain expires, someone else can register it. Keeping auto-renew on and a valid payment method saved is the safest way to protect your name.
WHOIS privacy
When you register a domain, your contact details can appear in the public WHOIS directory. WHOIS privacy replaces your personal information with protected details, shielding you from spam and unwanted contact. We recommend keeping it enabled.
Linking the domain to your hosting
If you registered your domain with Hostbox and have Hostbox hosting, we can connect them for you automatically. If you need to do it manually, point the domain at your hosting using nameservers or an A record (see our guide on pointing a domain to hosting). Need a hand? Reach out at /support.
